A Patch of Light

Reflections from Levittown

Levittown Pennsylvania is a solidly middle-class/working-class suburb of Philadelphia. The ‘sense-of-place’ derived from this middle-class neighborhood permeates the essays with a perspective on issues in the wider world. The writings present observations with humor, humility, awe, and sometimes with gentle scolding; all with a hopeful intent. Click on the title to go to the publisher’s site.

Snow Pictures
A Novel

A summer’s swim in the Delaware River turned toward tragedy for Marcus Kenrick. Saved by his brother’s call, he remains quiet about his near-death experience. As he explores its meaning, he grows to be a man with an uncommon capacity to heal and unrelenting curiosity to understand its potential. During a day’s hike to photograph waterfalls, his capacity to heal fails him and he is unable to prevent the death of a five-year-old drowning victim and questions its purpose. As Marcus explores the source for the healing he experiences, he touches many lives in his small Pennsylvania town and begins a broader awakening. Click on the title to go to the publisher’s site.

GOD
We Have a Few Questions

We all seem to have questions for GOD at some point in our life. They often take the form – What were you thinking….? With that realization came an idea for a new project; to ponder and compile a collection of Questions for GOD that we may have kicked around in chats with family and friends. The conversations about these Questions are not an attempt to define “Truth”. They instead represent the result of observations, both inward and outward, arising from life experience. As such, they are a point of view – no more, no less.  Click on the title for the complete pdf.

Bending to the Light
Musings on Issues of Citizenship

On occasion, I am motivated to write. Subjects vary but increasingly over the last few years I have written about social and political observations. I’ve assembled this collection of essays, some of which have been previously published, that are focused on a civics theme. A few personal writings are are also included to provide some of the background that colors my perspective. Click on the title for the complete pdf.

ACOLYTE

This started as a few thoughts and kept growing. I sought to complete my thought within 5 paragraphs for each segment. The sequence of these segments is as written and the order and story developed as a series. I never knew what I would write about from piece to piece – I enjoyed watching it evolve.
