Finally, my first after-retirement class.

Its 17 years since I received my Level II Reiki certificate and I’ve done very little with it since. From time to time though, I’d send Reiki to those who have asked for prayers. Healing energy—wouldn’t that count as a prayer? And so it went — a little Reiki here and there.

It’s different for everyone, but for me, I feel a slight buzz in my hands and feet when I use it.  I wondered if this was just my imagination or some kind of neuropathy.   Having said that — under normal circumstances, that tingling sensation was and is not there. I’ve been taking that as a good sign.

I remember practicing on trees at first — then my dog, who didn’t seem to like it and ran off into the other room. I took that as a sign too.  I did work on a young (a size of a quarter) turtle during mass one year. It had a respiratory problem and my step-daughter didn’t think it would live through the day. I held him, cupped in my hands, through the longer-than-usual Christmas mass. Laughing –He’s a good size now and healthy. But in those early days, I needed more practice and asked co-workers to let me try it on them. Some succumbed to my pleadings, but most (I’m guessing) were too kind to outright say they thought I was too forward or just weird. So gradually any practice stopped and I added it to the list of something interesting I once did.

When I retired, I had planned to take a few classes of something—anything that would hold my interest and keep me from boredom. Covid killed that notion as it hung on way too long. I gardened and did lots yardwork instead. Gardening is more about weeding, in my opinion, and a person can only weed so much.  I’m happy the world is starting to open up.

As I became more confident about getting around in the real world, the interest in Reiki came up again. This time, the expressed interest came from other people. Yay! My first retirement classes were Reiki refreshers and were kind of fun for a number of reasons. The frog in the toilet was the best! Let’s see how this round goes.

Reiki anyone?
